the eastern detroit warehouse wedding

detroit, michigan | lauren + matthew

Okay. Let me just say it.

If you’re getting married anywhere near downtown Detroit and you love exposed brick, open ceilings, and that perfectly imperfect industrial glow… The Eastern is it.

Tucked right near Eastern Market, this space feels like the cool older sister of wedding venues. Warehouse bones. Sky-high ceilings. Brick walls that have seen things. It’s an urban wedding photographer’s dream (yes, I said it, and I stand by it).

But here’s the thing—venues are just bones.

It’s what you do with them that makes them sing.

Lauren understood the assignment.

From the matte black goblets (yes please), to the soft pampas grass centerpieces, to the copper DIY arbor that somehow felt both industrial and sacred… it was layered, intentional, and wildly personal. Industrial without being cold. Soft without being fussy.

Her florist, Detroit Design Co., absolutely brought the vision to life. If you’re wondering how to make an industrial warehouse feel warm and intimate instead of echoey and stark? Call them. Then bring your weird, beautiful ideas to the table and watch them elevate it.

Because this is what I love about weddings at The Eastern:
It’s a blank canvas for creative couples who want their day to feel like them—not like a Pinterest copy/paste situation.

And Lauren’s dress.
The scalloped lace sleeves? Intricate and romantic in the most understated way. And the detachable skirt? I mean… come on. Ceremony elegance → reception freedom. We love a practical queen.

I may be slightly biased (Matthew is my cousin, and yes, I cried, okay?)… but this day was magic.

Even with rain.

And honestly? Rain in Detroit hits different. The pavement glistens. The brick deepens. The city feels moody in the best way. We snuck out for some downtown urban portraits and the whole thing felt cinematic. Like, indie-film-meets-love-story energy.

If you missed their engagement session, go back and look—because it might still be my favorite. There’s something about photographing couples before the wedding that shifts everything. By the time the big day rolls around, it doesn’t feel like hiring a vendor. It feels like hugging a friend who just happens to have a camera.

And that’s always the goal.

If you’re in the Detroit market and craving an urban venue that gives you structure and soul… put The Eastern at the top of your list. It’s easily one of my favorite industrial wedding spaces in Michigan.

And if what you’re really looking for is photos that look like art—but a process that feels like home?

You know where to find me.

No pressure. Just an invitation.
