Michillinda Lodge Wedding on Lake Michigan
A Colorful, Camp-Inspired Weekend Wedding inWest Olive, Mi | Laura + Kyle
This was my first Michillinda Lodge wedding, and let me tell you… it did not disappoint.
Tucked along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, Michillinda Lodge feels like summer camp met intentional design and decided to host weddings. It’s nostalgic in the best way — cabins, porches, lake air — but elevated. Thoughtful. Connected. Intentional.
If you’re dreaming of a Lake Michigan wedding that feels immersive instead of rushed, this venue is something special.
A Full Weekend Wedding at Michillinda Lodge
One of the most unique parts of hosting your wedding at Michillinda Lodge is that it’s not just a one-day event. It’s a whole weekend experience.
Your people stay onsite.
You wake up together.
You drink coffee overlooking Lake Michigan before hair and makeup even starts.
There’s lodging for your guests, space to gather, room to breathe. No shuttles. No disappearing acts. Just intentional time with the people who shaped you.
And the energy shift is real.
Instead of guests arriving right before the ceremony and leaving right after cake, you get:
Late night bonfires
Dock hangs
Morning lake walks
Bridesmaids laughing in cabins
Groomsmen reliving college stories on the porch
A Michillinda Lodge wedding weekend creates space for connection. For presence over perfection. For memories that stretch beyond a six hour wedding day.
Laura + Kyle’s Bold, Eclectic Lake Michigan Wedding Style
Now let’s talk about their day.
Laura had impeccable style. The kind of style that doesn’t follow trends — it makes them.
She wore a wedding gown with a cape-like train that floated behind her in the Lake Michigan breeze like something out of an editorial spread — but still felt completely her. And her hair? A mohawk updo. Bold. Sculptural. Emotional. Say less. When she saw herself fully styled, it brought her to tears. One of those quiet, sacred “this is me” moments.
Kyle showed up in a blush pink suit — and I will say it louder for the people in the back: more grooms should take notes. The soft pink paired perfectly with Laura’s cape and the overall color story of the day.
Their decor leaned eclectic and artful — pampas grass mixed with vibrant, wild, jewel-toned florals. Nothing overly polished. Nothing cookie-cutter. It felt alive. Textural. Personal.
Laura’s bridesmaids each wore bright colors that flattered them individually — not a single matchy-matchy lineup in sight. Every dress felt intentional. Every bouquet overflowed with wildflowers that looked like they were gathered straight from a Lake Michigan meadow (but, you know… elevated).
The whole aesthetic was chic, bold, and deeply inviting — a perfect reflection of who they are.
A Sunset Ceremony Overlooking Lake Michigan
And then… the sunset.
If you’ve ever experienced golden hour on Lake Michigan, you know it hits different.
That evening the light stretched across the water in the most unreal way. The sky softened. The waves caught the glow. And their portraits overlooking Lake Michigan? On. Point.
The ceremony deck gave them that expansive lake backdrop — open sky, moving water, that soft shoreline breeze lifting Laura’s cape just enough.
It felt cinematic but never staged.
Just them.
Their people.
The lake.

A Little Advice From the Bride
Laura said it best:
“Make your day all your own. Bring the unique love that you and your partner have and make the story of the day true to you and I promise it will be beautiful.”
And honestly? That’s the heart of a Lake Michigan wedding done right.
Joy-filled.
Bold.
And deeply personal.
A few words from Laura and Kyle on their wedding day at Michillinda Lodge:
“When Kyle and I began planning our wedding we agreed on one thing right away. We needed a venue that allowed us to be surrounded by the people that loved us, shaped us and supported us. Having our friends and family with us for the entire weekend made it feel like the celebration it was. Kyle and I got married later in life and we had a full life before joining ours and we wanted this to be represented in all areas of the weekend. Michillinda allowed us to bring in our own unique ideas and so many talented people to help bring our vision and love to life.
Our weekend was everything we could have imagined. The rain stopped and the sun came out just in time for the ceremony which made it clear our loved ones in heaven were right there with us. I loved seeing the colors, and there were a lot, all come together to make our day bright with love, laughter, delicious desserts and chill house music! People often asked my favorite part and I can honestly say I loved every single minute from the moment I woke up to Lake Michigan until I went to bed after we danced the night away at our after party.
Advice for future couples getting married:
“The single piece of advice I would give to couples planning is to make your day all your own. Make it truly your vision. Bring the unique love that you and your partner have and make the story of the day true to you and I promise it will be beautiful.”
