detroit scarab club wedding

Detroit, Michigan | nicole + Joshua

There is truly nothing better than a wedding venue with a pulse.
And The Scarab Club? She has a heartbeat.

Tucked into the cultural soul of Detroit, The Scarab Club was founded by artists and art lovers who simply wanted a place to gather, create, and talk about beauty. I mean… come on. Speak to my artist soul, please.

You can feel it the second you step inside. The wood floors, the historic details, the walls that have witnessed decades of creativity—it’s like walking into another era. And if you know me at all, you know I am always here for a “transport me back in time” moment. Historic city vibes? Yes please.

And then… the courtyard.
The most adorable, tucked-away, ivy-kissed little pocket of magic. It feels intimate without being small. Sacred without being stuffy. The kind of place where vows echo softly against brick and everyone leans in just a little closer.

As a Detroit wedding photographer, I cannot overstate how inspiring this city is. Detroit is layered with art, architecture, grit, resilience, and culture. It’s not polished in a generic way—it’s textured. Honest. Creative.

And that energy? It shows up in wedding photos.

Just around the corner you have the iconic Detroit Institute of Arts and the stunning Detroit Public Library. Which basically means… prime portrait locations on prime portrait locations. Marble columns. Grand staircases. Murals. Historic facades. Detroit architecture is the backdrop that never tries too hard—she just is.

If you’re planning a Scarab Club wedding in Detroit, here’s what I love most:

It feels intentional.
It feels creative.
It feels like you’re curating an experience, not checking a box.

And if you’re anything like my kind of couple—the art-loving, plant-obsessed, design-forward, sacred-but-still-ready-to-dance kind—you don’t want a ballroom that looks like every other ballroom. You want something that feels like you in photo form.

A Scarab Club wedding isn’t about trends. It’s about presence over perfection. It’s about being surrounded by history, art, and the people who shaped you. It’s about saying your vows in a place that was literally built for creatives to gather and dream.

Detroit has this way of wrapping you in its story. The old brick. The skyline peeking through. The culture that refuses to be ordinary. And every time I photograph here, I leave a tiny piece of my heart somewhere between the courtyard and the city streets (ok creepy…anyway).

More Detroit? Always.
More historic architecture? Absolutely.
More weddings that feel like art and home all at once? Yes please.

If you’re dreaming up a Detroit wedding at The Scarab Club and want photos that look like art—but a process that feels like home—I’d love to be part of your story.
